The cruise ship Costa Concordia sank yesterday evening (01/13/2012 around 20:00) on a reef near the island of Giglio (Italy). The ship was carrying 4231 people (a thousand crew members). Very quickly, the ship tilted over by around 20 degrees and the evacuation was ordered. The evacuation caused scenes of panic and stampedes and people fell into the water or were thrown into the water. The report is three dead (two French passengers and a crew member Peruvian) and 15 wounded (provisional assessment: there is 70 missing). The reasons for the beaching are currently unknown and the future of the ship is currently not known. |
